2012-2013 Preview: The 2012-13 Harding wrestling team doesn‘t have a lot of experience, but its new coaching staff does.
Ryder Delavern (182 pounds), Zach Eckard (195), Casey Nelson (285), Brantlin Williams (195) and Willie Morris (170) are the seasoned wrestlers who have returned to the mats for Harding.
Nelson scored a victory on the mat last week in the Marion County Meet, as did teammates Tim Teague (160), Trent Ramsey (106), and Trae Butler (113).
The Presidents lost some experience with the graduation of district qualifiers Eric Hines, Brandon Ballinger and Anthony Nye.
The program also lost a ton of experience with the retirement of long-time wrestling coach Ed Henning.
But the Harding wrestlers will still have a lot of coaches to go to in seeking guidance this winter.
Brothers Rocky and Jeff Ratliff are serving as co-head coaches for the Presidents. Both are Harding grads who wrestled at The Ohio State University.
Jeff Ratliff was a three-time state champion (1997-99) and an All-American at OSU while Rocky Ratliff was a prep state runner-up in 1992.
Their coaching staff includes Bob Stone, Brent Gorenflo, C.J. Westler, Chase Huddle and Todd Schneider. All of those men are former wrestlers as well.
“The strength of our team is senior leadership,” said Schneider. “We are blessed with a great deal of dedicated young wrestlers who will be the building block of the new direction and future of the Harding High Schoolwrestling program.”
