Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support

REWARDS: Gotchas earn tickets for being "caught" displaying one or all of the STAR qualities. Tickets can be redeemed for prizes on Mondays.

WALL OF FAME: A student from each grade level will be chosen each Friday as that grade's "STAR" student of the week. This student is chosen by the teachers based on whether students displayed the STAR qualities the previous week. STAR students' pictures are taken and added to our WALL OF FAME!

What is PBIS?

Marion City Schools is committed to collaboratively establishing a safe, respectful and caring environment that promotes student learning. One of the tools that we use is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, a preventive, proactive team-based approach to teaching behavioral expectations throughout the school.

PBIS is a school-wide system that focuses on teaching appropriate behavior to all students in the school. Its purpose is to create a positive environment that promotes unity, maximizes learning and makes everyone feel welcome. It establishes a positive school culture so that a school can be an effective learning environment for all students.

PBIS emphasizes prevention of student behavior problems through the use of non-aversive techniques, which should greatly reduce, if not eliminate, the need to use restraint and/or seclusion.

Each school building adapts PBIS to fit its needs.
