About Marion City Schools
We believe at Marion City Schools that the key to preparing students for their future goes beyond how well students perform on tests. That’s why we are committed and focused on our plan to transform how we educate students. We call this plan the Four Pillars. It lays out the framework that we follow to make sure every student is college or career ready. It is our goal that every student graduates with acceptance into a college or university, a job training program, the military, or a high-paying, in-demand job. We put this plan in place to help us get there.
I am excited to report great successes since implementing the Four Pillars, which focuses on student leadership, research-based reading instruction, personalized learning and fostering college/career ready skills. We are seeing improvements in our elementary literacy scores. Our percentage of students graduating continues to climb. More students take college-level classes while in high school. More than 80 percent of the Class of 2017 graduated with a specific plan for their future.
Harding High School is the proud home of Marion County’s only JROTC program. Marion City Schools hosts one of the state’s four GEAR UP programs, a valuable resource that help students overcome obstacles to college. We empower students to be leaders with The Leader in Me program in our elementary schools and LEAD at Grant Middle School. Only Marion City Schools works with partners to follow students for up to a year after graduation to make sure they stay on path, giving assistance if needed.We acknowledge we have a ways to go, but we believe in celebrating our successes.
