Facts about transportation department
There are currently 21 school buses in Marion City Schools' fleet and 21 full-time drivers.
The fleet covers 22 high school and middle school routes, 15 preschool-5th grader routes, one out of town route and 12 special education routes.
There are 11 other maintenance/transportation vehicles that the transportation department maintains.
There are two mechanics that currently maintain and service our entire fleet.
Bus drivers receive mandatory in-services every year and get re-certified every six years.
Bus driver certification includes:
- A four-part written test
- Physical exam
- Federal and state background checks
- Driver abstract (monitored nightly through the state of Ohio)
- Fifteen hours of classroom training
- Thirty to 40 hours of on-the-bus instruction
- A two-part driving test
Our drivers totaled 213,004 miles while driving their bus routes in 2014.
We drove 50,026 miles over and above that for field trips and athletic trips.
