Superintendent's Update: School Safety

Marion City Schools Interim Superintendent Stephen Fujii has released a statement regarding student safety in the wake of last week's school shooting in Florida and other events in Ohio and elsewhere. We ask you to read how we are addressing school safety and wellness as we follow our vision statement of maintaining a safe, respectful and caring environment that promotes student learning.

Marion City Schools celebrates district's focus on students' future

Marion City Schools' interim superintendent praised the district's efforts to prepare students for success after graduation during a recent speech given in downtown Marion.

"The state of Marion City Schools is strong," Fujii said. "In fact, there haven't been too many times when it has been stronger. The state of Marion City Schools is strong throughout my tenure because we remain focused on our mission and vision, our mission to inspire a community of achievement."

Harding alumnus Jerrod Slater to coach Harding football team

Marion Harding High School is pleased to announce that Harding alumnus Jerrod Slater will be the next coach of Harding's football team.

Harding athletic director Sean Kearns announced Friday that Slater, a 2005 Harding graduate, will succeed John Brady who announced in December that he is retiring as head coach.

All coaching positions are subject to approval by the Marion City Schools Board of Education. The board is expected to vote on Slater's contract in February.

Board of Education elects officers, changes meeting times

The Marion City Schools Board of Education named Ted McKinniss as its president and Leslie Schneider as its vice president for 2018. Mr. McKinniss and Mrs. Schneider took the oaths of office on Jan. 8 when the board held its organizational meeting.

The board changed its meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. for 2018.

Meetings will be held at 6 p.m. in the Grant Middle School library unless otherwise posted.
