Grant summer reading challenge

What Is the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge?

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free, online reading program designed to help students turn the “summer slide”—the learning loss which can occur over the summer months—into a “summer leap” by discovering the joy and magic of reading for fun.

The theme of the Challenge changes every year. The 2018 theme is “A Magical Summer of Reading,” which comes to life on the website with the beautiful Harry Potter illustrations by Jim Kay. We think it’s the perfect message to encourage students across the country to share in the magic of summer reading in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

How It Works

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is open to students in all U.S. states, territories, and the District of Columbia for 18 weeks. To participate, students must be registered by an educator, meaning a teacher, public librarian or community organization leader. Once registered, students will receive a username and password from their educator, librarian or community organization leader to log into scholastic.com/summer, and begin logging their summer reading minutes. Students can unlock digital rewards as they complete weekly reading challenges.
