Marion City Schools

Inspiring a Community of Achievement

College and Career

At Marion City Schools we know how important it is for students to make decisions concerning their future after graduation. There are a number of programs and resources available for students who need help with college visits, scholarship applications, career exploration, military enlistment and so much more. We want our students to leave high school with not only their diploma, but also acceptance into a two or four-year college, an adult training program, the military, or a high-paying, in-demand job. Planning for your future starts today.

College & Career Readiness

The College and Career Readiness program is new this year and focuses on preparing students for graduation and beyond. CCR advisors help all students to establish graduation plans in order to set them up for success as their high school careers begin. The advisors help students to explore their career interests and arrange activities to interact with a variety of employers from the Marion community.  They can connect students to one of many career pathways at Harding (Advanced Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Construction, Exercise Science, Global Logistics, IT, JROTC, Marketing, Welding). Students can visit the CCR office to get assistance with ACT registration as well as the FREE ACT preparation materials which are available to Harding juniors and seniors. Seniors will receive help with completing college applications and financial aid (FAFSA). Students are encouraged to stop in room 136 at Harding to talk about graduation and their future plans.

Career Pathways

Benefits of Career Pathways

With Career Tech Education (CTE), students succeed.

1. Students are more likely to graduate.

2. Students develop employability skills.

3. Students achieve in both CTE and other subjects. Students who integrate CTE with their academic pathway have higher achievement in reading, mathematics and science.

4. Students gain job-specific skills related to a specific career pathway.

5. Students can earn nationally recognized credentials in specific career pathways.

TRIO TALENT

Marion Technical College’s TRIO Talent Search is a free program that helps students understand their options for life after high school, and helps them to create a comprehensive plan to support those goals. We help students with things like career awareness and exploration activities, campus/workplace visits, applications (college, work, scholarships, etc.), FAFSA, resumes, scholarships, ACT (and SAT) registration, and interview skills. Students sign up to be a part of TRIO and those are the students we work closely with. Thank you to those who work diligently to continue to connect us with students who would benefit from our services.
