A Letter From the Superintendent

Dr Ronald Iarussi

The start of another successful school year is underway here in Marion City Schools. After almost six months away from education within our school walls, we were more excited than ever to see our students pass through the doors of our school buildings.

Throughout the summer, staff worked diligently in order to offer the best possible experience to our students for the 2020-21 school year.

Our commitment to health and safety remains, and we must all continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks, washing our hands frequently, practicing social distancing, and staying home when we are sick.

I know we are all eager to get back to normal, but this school year looks and feels a bit different. Flexibility is key to the success of our school year; we are ready for a multitude of scenarios and we are prepared to adapt when necessary.

Despite ongoing changes, we will continue to strive for progress through a rigorous and innovative instructional model. We will remain committed to our goals within the four pillars of leadership, learning, literacy and legacy.

I am excited to announce that beginning November 9, all hybrid learners in our elementary schools are now attending school in-person four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with Wednesday being a remote learning day). This schedule will continue unless Marion County Public Health makes a recommendation to change.

Please note that middle and high school students will remain on the current hybrid plan until at least January 11, at which time the district will determine if all students can return to in-person learning.

Our goal is to have students in school as much as possible. We continue to collaborate with local and state leadership, and we will promptly communicate any new and updated information to students and parents.

Finally, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for our staff, neighbors, businesses, residents and families. Your patience and continued understanding and commitment to one another throughout the past few months has enabled our schools to continue to find success through these unprecedented times.

I look forward to the celebrations, milestones and achievements we will continue to experience together this school year. We can do this together, Prexies!

Sincerely,

Dr. Ronald Iarussi
